Meal of the Week: Following Your Own Path

“Stop comparing where you’re at with where everyone else is. It doesn’t move you farther ahead, improve your situation, or help you find peace. It just feeds your shame, fuels your feelings of inadequacy, and ultimately, it keeps you stuck. The reality is that there is no one correct path in life. Everyone has their own unique journey. A path that’s right for someone else won’t necessarily be a path that’s right for you. And that’s okay. Your journey isn’t right or wrong, or good or bad. It’s just different. Your life isn’t meant to look like anyone else’s because you aren’t like anyone else. You’re a person all your own with a unique set of goals, obstacles, dreams, and needs. So stop comparing, and start living.”  -Daniell Koepke

There is a path designed specifically for you. And along this path, you will meet your purpose. You will find lessons hidden inside your experiences and, at certain points, you’ll meet people whose paths intersect with yours. But this only happens if you follow your own path.

What happens when you follow someone else’s path?

Think about a time when you used your GPS only to find yourself lost, in a deserted town, with no phone signal.  Okay, okay, maybe I’m reliving one of my experiences, but I’m sure we’ve all experienced something similar. It all starts when you put in the address of your intended destination, you confidently press the start button, and your GPS tells you what path to take- you simply follow that path.

As you’re driving, you’re marveling over the beautiful scenery. You’re dancing to your favorite playlist. You have absolutely no worries, until… your handy-dandy GPS says, “Your destination is on your right”; you look to your right and there’s a cornfield…

When you follow someone else’s path, you arrive at the wrong destination.

It may appear that you’re heading in a good direction, you may find yourself marveling over the beautiful scenery; but it’s only a matter of time before you  find yourself searching for fulfillment that can only be found on your path.

Don’t waste time walking down paths that don’t belong to you. Instead, find solace in the fact that along your path, you will find everything you want and need to fulfill your life’s journey. You’ll never have to worry about cornfields, because you’ll arrive at the exact destination determined for your life!
