Miss. Oseola McCarty was born on March 7, 1908 in Wayne County, Mississippi, MS. She was a washerwoman who dedicated her life to being of service to others. Over the years, she would deposit small amounts of money into her bank account. One day she received a call from a local banker letting her know that she had saved over $250,000! He wanted to know her plans for the wealth she had built.
What did she tell him?
1. She wanted to give a portion of the money to her loved ones.
2. She wanted to give a portion of the money to her church.
3. She wanted to give a portion of the money to the University of Southern Mississippi to establish a scholarship fund for children who may lack the financial resources to pursue their education. $150,000 went toward this scholarship fund, and once word traveled, several people contributed to Miss. McCarty’s scholarship fund bringing the grand total to $300,000!
